Targeted Testing and Treatment of Latent TB Infection Among High-Risk Populations in the US

Main content start

Accelerating TB elimination will require reductions in TB disease through both rapid identification and treatment of TB disease to prevent further transmission, and appropriately targeted diagnosis and treatment of latent TB infection (LTBI) to prevent progression to TB in high-risk populations. This project will develop models of targeted testing and treatment of LTBI among various populations based in the United States who are at high risk for TB disease. Since population-based testing and treatment of LTBI is not feasible on a country-wide level, data-driven models are needed to help inform the most appropriate strategies for targeting this intervention in high-risk populations. Models will help us understand the potential population impact and cost-effectiveness of targeted LTBI testing and treatment.

The aim of this project is to undertake comparative evaluation of different strategies for targeting testing and treatment of LTBI, considering different populations and sub-populations for targeting, different testing strategies, and different LTBI treatment regimens.

Results from this project were presented at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in San Francisco, CA, in May 2016. The poster can be viewed here.
